Long Time, No See! (Met Gala 2015 Review)

...And Im Back! After literally TWO MONTHS of running around within school, work, and new internship--I FINALLY am finding time to be able to provide to you whats going on in fashion!
I promise..its worth the wait:)

TOPIC: Met Gala 2015 Fashion Review

For those who do not know, the Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York. Basically every celebrity you can imagine is there from the music industry, designers, models, actresses and actors, and random Kardashians. Literally..EVERYONE. Also, in my opinion, this is one of the BEST events for fashion. The Met Gala is where the celebrities attending are not afraid/allowed to step "out of the box" with their fashion. Today, I will be providing you two main spotted trends for the Gala!

TREND #1: "Now You See Me--Now You Dont!"

One specific trend that was quite popular this year at Met Gala were scandalous, sexy sheers and attention grabbing peek-a-boos and cutouts. These fierce females were not afraid to make you look twice!

Cara Delevingne (English Fashion Model/singer/actress) being EVER so fierce in Stella McCartney.  Pure sleek and sexiness with a little peek-a-boo to edge it out. GIRL WORK!

Diane Kruger in Chanel Haute Couture (German actress/former model) pulling off the sheer pant. I chose this because it put a twist on the typical sheer we expect. You go girl!

Jennifer Lopez in Atelier Versace...Yes this dress is beautiful and I love the beading and the divided strap..BUT I am so very ready to see Jenny from the Block in something other this type of dress/hair......hate me if you must for saying it but we ALL are thinking it.

Joan Smalls (Puerto Rican model) in Roberto Cavalli. What sets this sheer piece apart, for me, is the color. This royal purple is so complementary against her skin tone! Also, this deep shade matched with the thick black choker almost brings a modern gothic appeal to her. This sets her sexy in an edgy sense. I love to see her pushing the limits!

Speaking of pushing limits--Miley Cyrus in Alexander Wang. I, for one, LOVE Miley Cyrus and that fact that she presents herself at Red Carpet events so true to herself. We know Miley likes to push limits and draw attention, but here she is still doing that but with  complete sophistication. The sophistication comes from this piece being black, long-sleeved, with a high neck. The edgy-ness is pulled out with the cut outs on the abdomen and shoulders. It is just enough yet right were if there were any more cut-outs it would be too much. She wears this so tastefully. Go Miley<3

Kim Kardashian West in Roberto Cavalli--See opinion with below..
Beyonce in Givenchy.
KIM K vs. BEYONCE: So...we all know that NO ONE can touch Beyonce and that Kim Kardashian has probably been touched too much--BUT I am thoroughly disappointed in Queen B. There is no denying that both of these dresses are absolutely stunning--but these are honestly too similar. Both sporting flesh-toned, long sleeve,  head-to-toe sheer with diamond appeal in gathered patterns. Beyonce wins the fight to me because I prefer how she wore this immaculate garment with a side pony creating an urban feel--but I do expect alittle but more from Beyonce.

Trend #2: QUEEN.

My last blog post, on March 5th, was on the trend of different cultures being very prevalent in fashion. I provided examples of fashion inspiration from Asian culture, Indian culture, African culture, and many more. For the Met Gala this year--there was a strong trend of culture in a royal sense. These women are all portraying Queens around the world!

Brie Larson, Courtney Eaton, and Annabelle Wallis designer not mentioned.
These three ladies are absolutely stunning and so interesting to look at. The embroidery, detailing, and patterns on each of these pieces are so intricate. I also LOVE Courtney Eaton (middle) sporting the tea length. That length will be seen much more throughout this spring and summer!

Janelle Monae also designer not listed.
Janelle Monae is ALWAYS dressed so sophisticated and stunning. Usually, we can see Janelle in a fitted suit, but here we see her in a separates outfit that really does bring a little masculine edge. What sets Ms. Monae to looking like "royalty" is obviously the gorgeous cape, the small connecting detail at her neck, and her braided hair. All of these elements matched with the sleek black two piece is stunning. Would not expect anything less from Janelle Monae!

Sienna Miller in Thakoon. We all know I am one fan of the lovely pant suit! Sienna Miller pulling off almost a matador resemblance. I love the feminine twist on this masculine style. The all over beading, open top, and sultry red brings ultimate sexiness paired with the cropped suit jacket and trousers. ALSO--again we see the cropped pants similar to the tea length!

Sarah Jessica Parker designed not named.

Karen Elson also designed not named.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Karen Elson are both breathtaking. I LOVE THE HEAD PIECES. I cannot get over them. This is definitely taking a risk but my gosh are they fierce. The dresses themselves are complete opposite from one another but at the same time have similarities of detailing and bold colors. Bravo Ladies!

And now for my top three in this category....

Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi

Rihanna in Guo Pei

Lady Gaga in Balenciaga

I MEAN COME ON--Would you expect me to pick any other women?! The confidence in these pictures alone is so gorgeous and refreshing to see. Yes this outfits are "out there" and extremely different..and Im not even going to lie--I dont honestly love any of them. With that being said--these women are taking this culture trend and perfecting it.
Zendaya- GIRL YES. She brings this basic trend of high-low and blow your mind with it.
Rihanna- OH MY GAWSH. Someone we can always count on to push our eye. From this gorgeous yellow hue to that amazing length of a train to her head piece!
Lady Gaga- DO I EVEN HAVE TO TALK RIGHT NOW?! In Balenciaga. My excitement level is through the roof. She is the epitome of the culture trend.

And so friends, family, and fashion lovers--I leave you with these two correlating trends of sleek sheer sexiness and cutouts and embracing different cultures! The women I have shown are just prime walking examples of these two cultures!
I am extremely excited to get back into posting my blog and hopefully providing everyone with some confidence and source of fashion information!

XOXO,
-J
